DaVinci Resolve for iPad (Update 23/12/22)

Many filmmakers use DaVinci Resolve as their Video Editing platform on their computer, but Blackmagic Design has announced that a DaVinci Resolve for iPad version will be available soon

DaVinci Resolve for iPad features

The new DaVinci Resolve for iPad is made to provide 4x faster ULTRA HD ProRes rendering performance on the new iPad Pro with the M2 chip.

Don't have the latest model? No problem, HDR is also supported for those using a 12,9-inch iPad Pro with M1 chip.

In addition, it is possible to transmit the output of the feed grading monitor to another Apple monitor, such as Apple Studio Display, Pro Display XDR or an AirPlay-compatible display.

The features of this new version of DaVinci Resolve 18 for iPad are optimized for MultiTouch technology and the Apple Pencil. In addition, they give users access to DaVinci's image technology, color finishing tools, and up-to-date HDR workflows.

The projects designed with the iPad are standard DaVinci Resolve project files, so they can be opened on the Desktop version of DaVinci Resolve 18.

This new version for iPad allows filmmakers to import clips directly from:

iPad internal storage
iPad photo library
iCloud connected externally
USB-C media drives

Moreover, the supported file formats are H.264, H.265, Apple ProRes and Blackmagic RAW.

Like Grant Pretty, the CEO of Blackmagic Design, stated, this new iPad version will put the power of Hollywood post-production tools for editing and color correction right in the hands of users. It's only a matter of time before we can distribute our professional video editing workflows on our iPads.

New version of DaVinci Resolve 18 for iPad which allow to work from anywhere in the world

Availability and price

By the end of the year, this new version will be available for free download in Apple's App Store. So filmmakers can choose between the free version or an upgrade to DaVinci Resolve Studio for iPad via an in-app purchase.

Once purchased you have lifetime access.

However, if you have previously upgraded to the DaVinci Resolve Studio version on your Mac or PC, it is not yet certain whether you need to make an additional purchase.

Which iPad will support DaVinci Resolve?
The press release on Blackmagic Design's website confirms that a powerful device will definitely be needed to support this software. Therefore, the app will be compatible with devices running iPadOs 16 or later.

DAVINCI RESOLVE 17 SUPER UPDATE

DaVinci Resolve 17 SuperUpdate

Davinci Resolve 17, the most comprehensive software package for media management, video editing, color correction, special effect and audio post-processing, has a new update.

Last night (November 9) Blackmagic Design Davinci introduced Resolve 17 and the Speed Editor.

Described by Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design as the biggest update in DaVinci's history. Resolve 17 has over 300 new features including HDR grading, AI-based magic mask, improvements in the Fairlight tab and improved editing tools and much more.

Also announced is a brand new keyboard. DaVnci Resolve Speed Editor enables faster editing in the 'Cut-page' with function keys and a 'jog-wheel'.

DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor will be available soon.

The new Fairlight Desktop Console is an audio control panel with 12 touch sensitive flying faders, channel LCDs and transport controls, with HDMI output for external graphics.

Fairlight Desktop Console will be available from December.

BLACK MAGIC URSA MINI PRO 12K

For less than EUR 10K, you can soon own a revolutionary 12K URSA Mini camera. The URSA Mini 12K has a Super35 sensor with a resolution of 12.288 × 6.480 pixels. Fortunately, the camera can also record in 8K, 6K, 4K, and 2K. The camera comes standard with a PL mount, but an EF is available for a small additional charge.

Just like for the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K, a special 12K URSA Mini recorder is available.

Using BRAW in Adobe Premiere

With the arrival of the Blackmagic RAW (BRAW) in the URSA mini Pro 4.6K G2 en Pocket Cinema Camera 4K we were often asked "Can we use BRAW in Adobe Premiere?"

Both the URSA mini Pro 4.6K G2 and the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K come with a license DaVinci Resolve Studio, along. That Blackmagic program can of course read BRAW files. But if you work with other video editing software, it is a different story.
Adobe itself does not (yet) support BRAW in Premiere Pro and Media Encoder, but third party developers Autokroma have developed BRAW Studio with which you can still use Blackmagic RAW files as a Premiere video editor.

NAB 2018 news part 2

In the Socrates NAB 2018 news part 2 a lot of news from Blackmagic Design. DaVinci Resolve 15 and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K were the tastemakers on Monday in Las Vegas. But mLogic also had some good news.

Blackmagic design
Blackmagic Design CEO Grant Petty presented a large number of updates of existing products and new products in a record time of 60 minutes on Monday evening (Dutch time). The new all in one Ultra HD live production switcher, the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K with 8 12G-SDI inputs, supporting all video formats from HD to Ultra HD 2160p at 59.94 frames per second for € 2545. The Cintel Scanner G2 will be released in June and is the successor of the Cintel Scanner. Socrates is the only Dutch CAR (Cintel Authorized Resellers) with a demo version of the Cintel Scanner. Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K.
The most important new NAB 2018 product is the 1145 euro Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K (Pre-order here!). The successor to the popular Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera will not be on the market until September, but that should not spoil the anticipation.
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K has a 4/3 sensor with a resolution up to 4096 x 2160 pixels up to 60 frames per second and 120 frames per second in full HD, MFT lens mount, a dynamic range of 13 stops, an ISO range of up to 25.600 on the back the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K has a 5 inch touchscreen. The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K uses LP-E6 type batteries, has a full size HDMI connector, mini XLR with 48 volt phantom power, and a super fast USB-C connection for direct recording to a suitable SSD. Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 15
DaVinci Resolve 15 now also has Fusion integration, making Blackmagic Design a fierce competitor for Adobe's Creative Cloud, especially After Effects and Premiere Pro. DaVinci Resolve 15 has now become even more of an all-in-one package, from ingest and editing through compositing and color grading to audio post-processing and delivery.
With the takeover of Fairlight a few years ago, it was only logical that there would be an integration with DaVinci Resolve. And that is even more evident in release 15 than its predecessors.
Although Petty did not go into it very deeply, some images and prices of the new Fairlight Consoles passed by. The Fairlight Console Bundles start at 17.795 euros for a 2 Bay console to a 5 Bay console for 39.645 euros in addition, separate modules such as the Fairlight Console Audio Editor, Channel Control, Channel Fader, LCD Monitor and Chassis will also be available.
Blackmagic Design is still working on the development of DaVinci Resolve 15 but has made a free beta version available so that you can already get an impression of what the Resolve 15 can do. Read more about it on the product page from DaVinci Resolve.

mLogic
In addition to all the Blackmagic violence in this NAB 2018 news part 2, some more news about mLogic.
mLogic will showcase the mSpeed and mSAN two high-speed RAID systems with Thunderbolt 2018 connectivity and a data transfer speed of up to 3 MB / second at NAB 2600.

mLogic mSpeed comes in a desktop RAID configuration with 8 or 12 bay slots and a Thunderbolt 3 port where HDDs and / or SSDs can be used as desired.

mLogic mSAN comes in a rack mount RAID configuration with 12 or 16 bay slots 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports to which four host systems can be directly connected. HDDs and / or SSDs of your choice can be used in the mSAN.
